The short version. We need your photo to generate a hairstyle on it. We delete it from our storage within 72 hours, we never use it to train a model, and we don't ask for your name, email or an account.
Who we are

What we collect
Photos you add
The selfie you upload, and — if you use the hairstyle extractor — the reference photo of a style you want to copy. Both are uploaded to our storage so the image model can read them, and both are deleted within 72 hours.
The generated result is also stored for up to 72 hours so you can come back to it. If you tap Save, a copy goes to your own device's photo library, and that copy is yours — we don't have it and we can't delete it.
A device identifier
The app generates a random identifier the first time you open it, so we can keep track of your generations and your subscription. It isn't your device's hardware ID, it isn't shared with anyone, and it doesn't identify you as a person. There is no account and no password.
Usage analytics
We record which screens are used and whether a generation succeeded or failed, so we can find what's broken. These events carry the random identifier above, never your photos. Alongside them we collect the things any app needs to make a crash report useful: your device model, your iOS version and the app version. We also see your phone's language, region and time zone settings, which tell us which countries the app is used in.
Analytics are handled for us by PostHog, on their European servers. We have turned off their location lookup, so your IP address is never used to work out where you are, and we are not told your city.
Session recordings
We record how the app is used — which buttons are tapped, how a screen is scrolled, where a flow is abandoned — so we can see where the app is confusing rather than guess. These recordings are masked: every image is blanked out, and so is anything you type, before anything leaves your phone. Your photo, your generated result and anything you type are not captured. What we see is the app's own screens — its titles, buttons and style names — and what you touched on them.
If we ever change that, we will update this page and say so in the app first.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple and by RevenueCat, our subscription provider. We never see your card details. We're told only whether a subscription is active.
Who else sees your photos
To generate a result, your photo is sent to the third-party image model we use. It is processed to produce your image and is not retained by us beyond the 72-hour window described above.
Your photos are stored with a cloud storage provider on our behalf. They are not sent to our analytics provider. We don't sell your photos or your data, and we don't share them with advertisers.
The 72-hour rule
Deletion is enforced by a lifecycle rule on the storage bucket itself, not by application code. That means it still happens if our servers are down, and it isn't something we have to remember to run.
We do not train on your photos
Your photos are never used to train, fine-tune or improve any model, ours or anyone else's.
Reference photos of other people
The hairstyle extractor lets you add a photo of a style you like, which often contains somebody else. That photo is treated exactly like your own: used only to produce your result, never shown to any other user, and deleted within 72 hours. Please only add photos you have the right to use.
Your choices
- Delete everything. Settings → Delete my data clears your answers and saved looks from the device and asks us to delete anything still in our storage.
- Stop sharing photos. Revoke camera or photo access in iOS Settings at any time. The app will still open; it just can't generate.
- Turn off analytics. Settings → Share usage data. Switching it off stops events and session recordings from being collected at all. Everything else in the app works exactly the same.
- Ask us anything. Email hello@piedrops.com and we'll tell you what we hold, which given the 72-hour rule is usually nothing.
Children
Hairstyle Try-On isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has used the app, email us and we'll delete what we have.
Braiders and stylists who ask for a code
This applies only if you ask for a code from our braiders page, not to anyone using the app. We keep the name, business name, social handle, city and email you send us, so we can set up your code and tell you how it is doing. Requests made through the form are handled by our website host, Netlify. We do not sell it or add you to anything else, and we delete it whenever you ask.
Where your data is processed
Our storage and processing providers operate internationally, so your photo may be processed outside your own country during the short window it exists.
Analytics and session recordings are processed in the European Union. Payment and subscription data is handled by Apple and RevenueCat under their own policies.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page.
